The Real Bride: The Best Thing I ever did…
…in terms of planning my wedding, was allowing myself enough time to get what I wanted to get–at the price I wanted to get it at…
Let me explain: As with anything, if you are in a hurry to get it, it’s going to cost you more…(e.g.: Express shipping on a item you must have for Christmas–which is 3 days away…) Same thing goes with weddings…If you try to cram all of your wedding planning into 3-4 months, either be prepared to pay more, or not be choosy with regard to your options, which will more than likely be limited. Now, there is always the chance that the place you’ve always dreamed of having your wedding will have a last minute cancellation and be able to accommodate you–but do you really want to take that risk?
My fiance and I starting the planning process in June of 2006, for our July 2007 wedding, and with 7 1/2 months to go we are in very good shape. We have booked most of our vendors, made most of the decisions, and will soon enter “the Limbo Zone” where you really cannot do anything until about 4-5 months before, when you start the invitations process, order bridesmaids gowns (which can take 10-12 weeks–yes, that is almost 4 months!) to arrive…
I ordered my Wedding Gown in July–and Wedding Gowns are notorious for taking up to 6 months to arrive–the Estimated arrival for mine? December 15!!! Yes, 5 months…But it will be here in plenty of time for fittings, pictures and the like…
The Better the Vendor, the quicker they will be unavailable…so the earlier you can book them, the better!
Bottom line: If you can, allow yourself at least 10-12 months to plan your wedding…you will be glad you did!
As always, any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them…:-)
Happy Planning!
