The Real Bride: Books, Books and More Books…Part 1

Not only do I spend alot of time on the Internet, I am also a reader, and, in planning my wedding, I want every bit of information possible so I could make informed decisions…

So I wanted info–ALOT of it–but if your type in “wedding” on Amazon.com, you get 163,499 hits on books ALONE…even I don’t want to read that much…

So I went to Paperback Swap where I have an account and started searching for books on planning a wedding. (Why should I pay full price for books when I can get some of them for the cost of shipping?)
As you can imagine, it can be quite daunting trying to find the right ones. Because the books I got are used, I was at the mercy of what people were swapping, but I tried to get books that were published in the last 4 years, so the info was still relevant, and on topics that were important to me–saving money, proper etiquette, unique ideas, etc.
Here are the ones I got from Paperback Swap:

Bridal Bargains: Secrets to Throwing a Fantastic Wedding on a Realistic Budget (Bridal Bargains), by Denise and Alan Fields

Excellent Book…it really opened my eyes to the scams that are out there waiting for brides and grooms, and various ways to combat them. They also offer reviews on different wedding gown designers. You’d be surprised how many of the “big name” designers of wedding gowns manufacture less than quality merchandise. The only downside was that I had an earlier version of the book (a new version has just been released)

Diane Warner’s Contemporary Guide To Wedding Etiquette: Advice From America’s Most Trusted Wedding Expert (Wedding Essentials)

I really loved this book. It explained what is proper and what is not, for both traditional and contemporary weddings, without sounding the least bit preachy or snobby. It also taught me several things I did not know about weddings, and offered many suggestions on how to make your day classy. And its excellent ammo when you want to convince your family something you want to do is actually perfectly acceptable etiquette-wise!

Working Woman’S Wedding Planner 3Rd Edition

This book was a huge spiral bound book containing mostly worksheets and the like. While it contained alot of good info, I already have the wedding software, so this book was not much use for me…For someone who is more comfortable writing things out, this book would be a great way to keep yourself on track, and relevant info for planing would be in the same place.

The Everything Wedding Checklist: The Gown, the Guests, the Groom, and Everything Else You Shouldn’t Forget (Everything Series) by Janet Anastasio, Michelle Bevilacqua

This is exactly as billed: A book of checklists, and a rehash on all of other books I have read–and not a particularly good rehash.

Next Time: The other 1/2 of the list…
