Bride to Wife: Part 2: What Did You Like Best About Your Wedding?
As part of a 6-part series, I have asked local married women 7 questions…today’s question is:
What did you like best about your wedding? (During Planning, actual day, etc)
And here are their answers:
D: That we planned the wedding we wanted…
-A string quartet with no vocalists at mass.
-Married in the Church where my parents were married, and that I loved to go to as a kid because of the beautiful altar and paintings on the Ceiling
-Had lilacs in my bouquet because i grew up with them blooming in our back yard
-The food was great and the room looked beautiful.
-The weather was beautiful…we were lucky!
-I was grateful that 2 of my attendants had great taste. My Shower was in my friend’s tastefully decorated Victorian, great food and wine elegantly served on a variety of everyone’s fine China, and my sister baked a beautiful cake!
Eve: It was a formal church wedding and I liked the service very much.
D’Lynn: The memory
Jen: I loved the planning portion and seeing all my hard work payoff on my Wedding Day!
Dawn: Buying the wedding dress, having a close theatre friend officiate the ceremony so it made it more personnel, the live jazz trio we had at the reception instead of the typical DJ thing, the unexpected stop at a local theatre to have wedding pictures taken complete w/ thrones & fog machine, no screaming children during the wedding ceremony because we requested guests not to bring their children to the wedding, having a section of Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Bells”, a favorite speech from “The Fantasticks” & a Shakespearian Sonnet done as our readings, having our song (”Forever & a Day” from “High Spirits”) sung at our wedding by one of my high school friends since it was one of the first songs my future husband played for me when we were dating.
Katie: Our family and friends still talk about our wedding: how much fun it was, and how different. It was an outdoor wedding on this gorgeous estate in NY and about 30 minutes prior to my walking down the ‘aisle’ to the arbor it began to POUR rain. And it poured all day long! Thankfully we did have a beautiful tent to protect us, but we did need to quickly make changes. The ceremony that was to take place in this beautiful arbor, now was taking place under the tent where the reception was. Prior to my entrance (my friends shared with me after the wedding) everyone in the tent (about 240 people) was completely silent. Obviously feeling sorry for me due to the rain.
Thankfully, right before walking down the hill to the tent, escorted by my dad and 2 friends holding monster umbrellas over our heads, I changed out of my beautiful off-white shoes (which, by the way, took me 2 days to find) into my big green Wellies, a.k.a, rainboots. And so with my dress hiked up above my knees, my wellies were quite a display and thankfully broke the mood for everyone. I entered to a roaring cheer of applause and laughter which stayed with everyone thru the entire day! I’ll never forget that wonderful sound, or all the smiles on the faces of all of our guests…it was magical!
Kelly: My favorite part was the actual day. I didn’t stress out about planning and wasn’t a monster bride. We thought we had everything under control, but as the day got closer, everything that could go wrong did. We thought we might lose the hall due to a possible criminal investigation, one of our ushers bailed two weeks before and our limo was in an accident the day before the wedding. There was so much insanity leading up to the day itself, by the day of the wedding, I was totally relaxed!
